Treasure trails are one of the biggest adventures in Runescape. You never know what kind of treasure awaits you, or when you’ll actually retrieve it. Runescape treasure trails are for members only but some of the rewards can be used / worn by both free players and members. A Runescape treasure trail is as basic as it sounds; a treasure hunt. To start a Treasure Trail you must first get a clue scroll.
Clue scrolls are dropped by certain monsters within the game. There are three different levels of clue scrolls, the higher the level, the greater the reward. There are more ways to get clue scrolls. Some are not as hard to gain as fighting monsters. You may not even have to fight at all to gain a clue scroll. You can get a level 1 clue scroll by pick pocketing H.A.M members. Thieving coffins in the Zogre Cavern can also retrieve a level one clue scroll.
There is a great variety of items you can gain by completing a clue scroll. Some are valuable items, such as 3rd age melee armor. Some not so valuable items include a fire battlestaff. Runescape treasure trail rewards can only be obtained by completing a clue scroll, or some items can be bought from other players. This is how it is possible for free players to obtain some of these items.
Once you get a clue scroll, read it! This is the first step to finding your treasure. There are different types of clue scroll such as anagrams, maps, emotes, and so on. Anagrams will require you to unscramble the letters and then find that person and speak to them. Maps give you a piece of the world map with an ‘X’ in a certain place. You have to dig on the ‘X’ to get a casket which has your next clue or reward inside. Emote clues require you to be wearing certain armor/hats/boots, etc and then perform the emote in the given place. You will have to work out which place you need to go to though. Example: ‘Panic in the heart of the Haunted Woods. Beware of double agents! Have no items equipped when you do.’ The haunted woods is the woods East of Canafis and the emote you have to perform is ‘Panic.’ It’s as easy as that.
Question: I’m digging where I’ve been told but I’m not getting anything, what do I do?
Answer: Make sure you have your clue, a sextant, a watch and a chart in your inventory. If they are in your bank or you do not have them at all you will not be able to find anything. If you never received a sextant, watch and chart, go see the Professor in the house North of the Observatory which is situated Southwest of Ardougne, he will tell you how to receive a sextant and he himself will give you a watch and navigation chart.
Question: I’ve killed so many monsters and I still haven’t gotten a clue scroll, what do I do?
Answer: If you already have one then you will not be able to get another, check carefully through your bank to see if there is one there. If you don’t have one then make sure the monsters your killing do actually drop clue scrolls.
Question: If I drop my clue will I be able to get another?
Answer: Yes, as long as you have no clue you can always get another.
Question: Can I buy sextants, charts or watches from other players?
Answer: No, you have to gain them yourself, its all part of the fun!
Question: What happens if I get killed whilst doing my clue scroll?
Answer: You do risk losing your clue scroll. Make sure when you set off on a clue scroll that your clue is in the top three items, this means it gets kept if you die.
Question: I’ve dropped my clue scroll, can other players take it?
Answer: No, other players will not be able to see your clue scroll. Clue scrolls are a players personal prize, don’t worry about other people being able to get them.
