Runescape as people know it today is not the first version of the game. Runescape Classic was the very first version of Runescape. Unfortunately, you may not be able to play Runescape Classic as it is no longer available for new players. Runescape Classic has been kept alive purely to support some of the older and very first players of the game.
Runescape 2 and Runescape Classic have many differences. The major difference is that Runescape Classic no longer gets updated. Also, the graphics and interfaces are completely different as well as some aspects of game play. The new graphics engine that Runescape 2 uses catered for a much more detailed and three dimensional look, where as Runescape classic, whilst 3D had a very 2D look and lack a lot of detail. In terms of game play one of the biggest differences was the change in the combat system where you were no longer committed to three rounds of combat once combat was initiated like it was in Runescape classic and you earned experience whenever you delivered damage to an opponent rather than just when you defeated the opponent.
The worlds of Runescape 2 and Runescape Classic are similar to one another, apart from the fact that some of the cities and areas have been re-built and have different looks. The names and locations of cities haven’t really changed though some monsters can also be found in different places. NPC’s (Non-Player Characters) may also have new looks. If you know almost all there is to know about Runescape areas and where to find them you should have no trouble playing the Classic version. New skills can be found on Runescape 2, along with armour, quests, items, monsters and many more new features.
Also in Runescape classic the way you went about many skills like mining, fishing, wood cutting etc was slightly different than it is in Runescape 2. Firstly you didn’t equip items to your player in Runescape classic, you just carried them in your inventory, so for example if you wanted to wear armour you’d put the items you wanted to wear in your inventory then equip them but they would stay in your inventory which would take up a space. Now in the early Runescape classic when it come to mining for example you’d have to click you inventory then click your pickaxe then you need to click on the rock you wanted mine at, and you had to do this for each and every swing at the rock whether you gained an ore or not. So mine a load or whatever ore you could be clicking upwards of 200 times. Thankfully in Runescape 2 you only need to click on the rock you wish to mine and you will swing you pickaxe multiple times often getting multiple ores. The same applies with the other skills.
Due to this very high amount of clicking required in Runescape classic many people opted to use autoers to do the boring tasks like fishing, mining, wood cutting etc. This lead to the eventual introduction of fatigue which happened when players did many tasks and items like sleeping bags would refresh players. You don’t see fatigue or sleeping bags these days because in Runescape 2 random events where introduced to counter autoers.
You may find when you upgrade you account from Runescape classic to Runescape 2 that your combat level is different, don’t worry, this is due to the fact that combat levels are calculated differently in each version. There was a bit of uproar from many Runescape pures when Runescape officially upgraded to Runescape 2 because of how the combat system changed, but in hindsight the combat system is a lot fairer in Runescape 2 and offers a great deal more variety when it comes to pking.
The general concept of the game and how you play it is almost the same. You will still find yourself in a world full of magic, quests and creatures. Both versions also have the unforgettable friendly players who make the game such a success.
Players cannot play Classic if they are 1, not a member and 2, haven’t played Classic within the past 6 months. I can’t imagine that Runescape Classic will be support too far into the future as the number of classic players dwindles. If you have the option to play Classic then you should take a look into it and see for yourself how it is. Runescape 2 is recommended due to the many extra features though playing Runescape classic can be quite a novelty.
So those are the basics of Runescape Classic. Thank-you for spending the time to read this guide on Runescape Classic.
